It did not take long for the tension to boil over between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
In the first quarter, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart scrambled for a first down on their opening drive. But as he was going out of bounds, Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown delivered a strong hit. The Giants rushed to defend Dart, leading to a pushing and shoving match with the Cowboys.
Overshown was whistled for unnecessary roughness, leading to a 15-yard penalty for the Cowboys.

The controversial play earned mixed reactions from fans on X.
“He had one foot out. Not what I'd call extremely late,” said @boofyranch.
“Terrible call. He's in bounds when Overshown goes for the hit. They never call that if it's on a WR (wide receiver) or RB (running back),” claimed @whippobackup.
“Cheap hit,” wrote @BirdzFanz.
“The New York Giants better not lose to this garbage Dallas Cowboys team when they're playing at home,” posted @thestroker22.
“If Dart doesn't want to take this hit, he doesn't have to take every single inch. Dip out of bounds earlier,” commented @Theyaredue.
New York has grown wary of the 23-year-old Dart for always absorbing strong contact. Giants coach John Harbaugh urged him in training camp to avoid getting mauled. The second-year signal-caller had several trips to the blue tent in his rookie year.
As of this writing, the Giants are ahead of the Cowboys entering the fourth quarter, 21-14. Dart has thrown 16-of-20 for 183 yards and two touchdowns.
