Chelsea 2-2 Hull City, Player Ratings: When scoring goals is not enough

João Pedro had a goal and an assist. Morgan Rogers had a goal. Cole Palmer had an assist. Our delightful front three combined for all of our scoring, and in an ideal world, two such goals would be enough to get all three points — especially against a team who had scored just three goals total in their previous three Premier League matches.

But we don’t live in an ideal world. And in this world, no lead is safe, no amount of goals is enough.

Then again, if Rogers converts his big chance in the second half, or if Palmer trusts his right foot a bit more, or if Estêvão’s shot in added-on time curls just a bit less, we’d be looking at another 3-2 in our favor and another three points in the bag. This approach is unsustainable, but we are playing to our strengths at least.

Rogers extended our streak of games with early goals to four straight in the Premier League. We just have to remember to keep scoring after that first one goes in.

Palmer showed a few signs of frustration in this one, especially as the second half wore on, but it’s good to demand excellence. It would be even better if we were to take some pressure off our attack simply by not doing exceedingly silly things at the back.
