**There is some unfinished business for** [**Everton**](https://readeverton.com/) **when Wolves arrive at the Hill Dickinson on Wednesday night, although David Moyes has some thinking to do before then.**
It was Wolves who knocked Everton out at exactly this stage last season, winning 2-0 at Molineux through goals from Marshall Munetsi and Tolu Arokodare.
It was a poor night for Everton and another cup opportunity gone, but things feel a little different 12 months on. Moyes’ side are unbeaten in the Premier League after four games and Saturday’s point at Tottenham was another decent one, especially after the way they had to dig in early on.
The complication for him is the size of the squad.
Moyes, of course, wanted more players before the transfer window closed and didn’t get them, so asking the same group to keep going Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday isn’t ideal. Ipswich are at the Hill Dickinson three days after Wolves, and there will have to be some changes somewhere.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Wednesday becomes a night for those on the fringes.
Moyes made only three changes at Preston in the previous round, and Everton won 4-0, with Thierno Barry scoring a hat-trick and Brennan Johnson getting his first goal for the club. Barry is one of those who could do with another start, while a few others who have spent plenty of time watching from the bench will be hoping Moyes gives them a go.
It is a balance, though, because this is a competition Everton should want to stay in. They have never won the League Cup and haven’t lifted a major trophy since 1995. Nobody needs reminding how long ago that was.
There will be bigger games than Wolves at home in the third round of the Carabao Cup, but Everton learned last season how quickly another route to Wembley can disappear. And Evertonians both love and deserve a cup run.
