Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton has responded to Bruno Guimaraes following his celebration against Sunderland. The Brazilian completed a £75 million transfer to Arsenal in the summer.

‌

After missing the first game of the season with a hamstring injury, Guimaraes has been named on the bench for the last three Premier League games. With Arsenal struggling to break down Sunderland on Friday night, he was brought onto the pitch at half time.

‌

His introduction had the desired impact, with him scoring the crucial first goal for Arsenal just minutes after goalkeeper David Raya had saved a penalty. It was the midfielder’s first goal for Arsenal, and in his celebrations, he didn’t forget his Newcastle connection by mocking the home crowd.

The 28-year-old gestured to the stands as if to suggest that Sunderland are small in comparison to their rivals. He also cupped his ears and shushed the crowd as he was mobbed by teammates.

The celebrations went down well with onlooking Newcastle fans. It seems the current players also enjoyed it.

Joelinton shared a picture of the celebration along with a caption reading: “Once a Geordie always a Geordie!!” He also included Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under as the music on the post.

Guimares then reposted that message onto his own Instagram story. After the game, the 28-year-old posted pictures of his celebration on Instagram and wrote: “My first goal for this club, and to celebrate it with a win like this… I couldn’t have asked God for anything more.

“A special night that I’ll never forget. We keep going, Gooners.”

Joelinton posted black and white heart emojis in the comments. Nick Woltemade simply wrote: “Wow!!”

Sven Botman wrote: “Qualidadoo,” which translates as “Quality.” Joe Willock responded with four heart eye emojis.

Former Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon was among those to ‘like’ the post.

Speaking about the goal after the match, Guimaraes said: “A beautiful goal in a very good place. Everyone knows my past. I had an amazing history at Newcastle but now I'm trying to create a new history here and I've started in the right way.

Arsenal went on to win the match 2-0 thanks to Bukayo Saka’s late penalty, which also saw Sunderland’s Reinildo Mandava shown a red card. Newcastle, meanwhile, are in action on Monday night as they take on Leeds at Elland Road (8pm kick off).
