**Arsenal have been given a timely warning about what awaits them at Portman Road after Ipswich Town produced a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Crystal Palace.**
Gary O’Neil’s side fell behind at Selhurst Park before goals from Emersonn and Leif Davis turned the game around.
Palace were reduced to 10 men when Axel Disasi was sent off during the first half, but they still recovered to 2-2 before substitute Zian Flemming struck a **90th-minute winner** for Ipswich.
The result gives Ipswich confidence before Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup meeting with Arsenal.
ReadArsenal has already looked at how Mikel Arteta could rotate heavily in our Arsenal predicted XI against Ipswich.
The most significant part of Saturday’s win was the way Ipswich reacted after Palace equalised.
Rather than settle for an away point, O’Neil introduced another attacking player and his side continued pushing for the winner.
Flemming eventually delivered it in the final minute after Davis’ effort came back off the crossbar.
O’Neil was particularly encouraged by that mentality.
Speaking afterwards, he said Ipswich **“found a way to win”** before immediately turning attention towards a week containing Arsenal and Everton.
That should interest Arteta.
Arsenal may rotate significantly on Tuesday, but Ipswich have now won two of their opening four Premier League matches and have shown they are capable of punishing mistakes.
There could nevertheless be some positive news for Arsenal.
Emersonn scored Ipswich’s equaliser against Palace and has already found the net twice in four Premier League appearances this season.
However, the striker came off with a tight quadriceps during Saturday’s victory.
O’Neil said afterwards that he was already likely to rest Emersonn for the Carabao Cup tie even without the problem.
That could remove one of Ipswich’s most physical attacking threats from the starting XI.
The manager described Emersonn as difficult to play against because of his strength, movement and ability to hold the ball.
Arsenal have their own fitness concerns, with ReadArsenal reporting that [Ben White is being assessed ahead of the Ipswich trip](https://readarsenal.com/2026/09/13/ben-white-injury-arsenal-ipswich/).
Emersonn is not the only player Arsenal need to watch.
Davis produced a goal and an assist at Selhurst Park, while Flemming showed the impact Ipswich can call upon from their bench.
Sky Sports also highlighted an encouraging defensive statistic despite Ipswich conceding twice: in three of their opening four league fixtures, their opponents have been held below **0.70 expected goals**.
That suggests Tuesday may not be as comfortable for a rotated Arsenal side as the difference between the two squads might imply.
Ipswich have already taken leads against Manchester United and shown competitive performances against Liverpool this season.
Arteta will undoubtedly make changes.
But Ipswich’s dramatic victory at Palace was a useful reminder that Arsenal cannot afford to treat their Carabao Cup opener as a formality.
