James Milner has returned to Liverpool as he continues the development of his new coaching career.
Milner, who called time on a 24-year playing career this summer, has been working with some of the Reds youngsters at the Academy in Kirkby.
The ECHO understands the agreement with Milner is very casual - he is not an official permanent member of staff - as he gains experience towards earning further coaching badges.
The 40-year-old was coaching the under-11s at the weekend and is expected to work with a number of other age groups over the coming period.
Milner has long made clear his intention to move into coaching, and has already gained his UEFA A Licence and is now looking to conclude his Pro Licence.
He previously worked with the Academy during his time at Liverpool, and gave a teamtalk to the young Reds side helmed by U23s boss Neil Critchley that earned a famous FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town in February 2020 after then first-team boss Jurgen Klopp ruled himself and the senior squad out of the match.
Milner was also invited to be part of coaching sessions under Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler during his time at the Seagulls last season.
