Bidding to advance to the fourth round of the EFL Cup, Tottenham Hotspur travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Tuesday evening.
Spurs come into Tuesday’s clash in dire form, having lost two and drawn two of their four Premier League matches in 2026-27. They were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Everton in North London at the weekend, meaning Roberto De Zerbi’s side have picked up just two points from four league games.
The Lilywhites started their EFL Cup journey by thrashing Charlton Athletic 5-1 at home last month. Tottenham face an uphill task to advance into the next round of the competition, with Liverpool standing in front of them.
That said, here is the predicted Tottenham lineup for our cup fixture against Liverpool.
Goalkeeper: Antonin Kinsky
Antonin Kinsky has played every minute of this season for Spurs, including the 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic. The 23-year-old is set to continue in goal when Tottenham face Liverpool.
Defence: Archie Gray, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson
Roberto De Zerbi hinted at major squad rotation after the Everton game, citing physical struggles and a lack of match sharpness as the main issues disrupting his squad’s early-season rhythm.
Skipper Micky van de Ven has a patchy injury record and his minutes will be managed here. Marcos Senesi is the ideal profile to replace the Dutchman, partnering Jan Paul van Hecke in the heart of Tottenham’s defence. The duo have to be at their best to stop a dangerous Liverpool attack.
Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie missed the Everton game due to muscle problems, and while their injuries are not thought to be serious, fans will likely see Archie Gray and Andy Robertson continue at right-back and left-back, respectively. This will be Robertson’s first visit to Liverpool since leaving the club in the summer, and the Scot is expected to get a rapturous reception from the Anfield crowd.
Midfield: Mateus Fernandes, Lucas Bergvall, Conor Gallagher
Changes are expected in midfield as well. We might see Mateus Fernandes drop into a deeper role to try and control the speed of the game. Sandro Tonali and Rodrigo Bentancur are expected to be not involved from the start, which will open the door for Lucas Bergvall and Conor Gallagher to walk into the XI.
Bergvall should partner Fernandes in the double pivot, with Gallagher trying to be the source of creativity for his side. James Maddison is likely to be involved from the bench again.
Attack: Omar Marmoush, Dominic Solanke, Mohammed Kudus
De Zerbi is likely to freshen up his attack by handing Mohammed Kudus his first start of the season. The Ghanaian should replace Savio on the right flank, but Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke will retain their spots in attack from the Everton game.
The Tottenham troika have to link up well and be direct in their approach to unsettle the strong Liverpool defence. Mathys Tel, who was criticised by De Zerbi for not following instructions against Everton, will try to make an impact off the bench this time around.
