NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams

The NFL‘s opening slate gave fantasy football managers their first real information of the season. Now comes the harder part: deciding how much of it matters heading into Week 2.
My Week 2 fantasy football rankings still lean heavily on talent, role and expected volume, but the scoring environment also matters. Simply put, players on teams expected to score plenty of points get a small boost. More trips near the end zone create more chances for touchdowns. Players in offenses expected to struggle can slide a few spots for the same reason.
These PPR rankings, found at the end of the article, will continue to update throughout the week as injury reports and practice news arrive. If you’re here early in the week, just remember this is a rough draft. We need to get rankings right on Sunday, not Monday.

Fantasy football Week 2 outlook
Week 2 has several games that could support multiple fantasy starters, led by Detroit-Buffalo. Both offenses showed their upside immediately. Buffalo scored 36 points in its opener, while Detroit survived New Orleans 31-30 in overtime. Josh Allen accounted for four touchdowns against Houston, and Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 156 yards and two scores against the Saints.
San Francisco also gets a boost after opening the season with a convincing win over Los Angeles. The 49ers now return home for a matchup in which they should have plenty of scoring opportunities.
Dallas-Washington is another matchup that helps the offensive pieces on both sides, while Baltimore, Kansas City and Chicago also enter Week 2 with strong scoring expectations.
The opposite applies to Cleveland, Tennessee and Miami. Their best fantasy players are not automatic sits, but fewer expected points mean fewer projected touchdown chances. That can become the difference when separating two otherwise similar players.
Week 2 quarterback outlook

Josh Allen remains QB1 after opening the season with 334 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two more scores on the ground. Buffalo should again be one of the NFL’s higher-scoring teams in Week 2, giving Allen both a strong floor and the best ceiling at the position.
Lamar Jackson gets one of the bigger bumps near the top. Baltimore’s offense produced 502 yards against Indianapolis, while Jackson threw for 324 yards and added another 40 on the ground. He accounted for two touchdowns in the 41-23 win.
Brock Purdy also moves up after throwing three touchdowns in San Francisco’s 27-7 win over the Rams. The 49ers are positioned for another productive offensive game against Miami, so Purdy climbs into the top three.
Dak Prescott gets a smaller boost despite an uneven opener. Dallas scored only 20 points against the Giants, and Prescott finished with 175 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Week 2 presents a better scoring setup against Washington.
Week 2 running back outlook

Jahmyr Gibbs keeps the top spot after turning 2026’s opening weekend into another reminder of his ceiling. He rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns against New Orleans, and Detroit now enters another game where points should come quickly.
Christian McCaffrey moves ahead of Bijan Robinson at No. 2. McCaffrey rushed for 68 yards on only 10 carries against the Rams, while rookie Kaelon Black also handled 14 attempts. The split is worth monitoring, but San Francisco’s Week 2 scoring outlook creates enough touchdown potential to keep McCaffrey near the very top.
Derrick Henry also climbs after scoring three times in Baltimore’s opener. The Ravens should again spend plenty of time around the goal line, which is exactly where Henry carries his greatest fantasy value.
D’Andre Swift gets a modest bump as well. He rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns as Chicago exploded for 59 points against Carolina. The Bears cannot be expected to repeat that total, but their Week 2 outlook remains strong enough to keep Swift firmly in the RB2 range.
Week 2 wide receiver outlook

Amon-Ra St. Brown moves ahead of Jaxon Smith-Njigba and into the top three. Detroit has one of the better scoring environments of Week 2, and St. Brown already found the end zone twice in the overtime win against New Orleans.
Nico Collins also gets a small boost. Houston scored 31 points against Buffalo in Week 1 and should remain aggressive offensively against Cincinnati. He moves ahead of Drake London in a close group behind the elite receivers.
CeeDee Lamb stays near the top after scoring Dallas’ first touchdown of the season. The Cowboys struggled to create explosive plays against New York, but their Week 2 matchup offers a better chance for sustained drives and scoring opportunities.
Chicago receivers also benefit from a strong offensive projection. Rome Odunze made one of the biggest plays of the Bears’ opener with a 47-yard reception that helped set up a touchdown. The entire passing game carries more upside after Caleb Williams accounted for four scores in Week 1.
Miami’s receivers move the other direction. Even talented players become harder to rank aggressively when their offense is projected to score fewer points than almost anyone else on the slate.
Week 2 tight end outlook

Trey McBride remains TE1 after immediately picking up where he left off last season. He caught nine passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in Arizona’s 26-14 victory over the Chargers. That type of volume keeps him at the top even without an especially favorable team scoring projection.
Brock Bowers moves directly behind him at TE2, but his health needs to be watched closely. Bowers missed Week 1 after undergoing a procedure on his knee, though the Raiders believe he has a realistic chance to return against the Chargers. If he is active without a major workload restriction, his target ceiling is enough to put him immediately back among the position’s best options.
Travis Kelce receives a small Week 2 boost because Kansas City carries one of the stronger team scoring projections. Colston Loveland also remains near the top as part of a Chicago offense that opened the season by scoring 59 points.
Harold Fannin Jr. slides despite remaining a useful fantasy option. Cleveland enters Week 2 with one of the lowest expected scoring totals, lowering his touchdown ceiling compared with similarly ranked tight ends.
Week 2 kicker outlook
Brandon Aubrey remains the top kicker because Dallas should have more scoring opportunities against Washington than it produced in Week 1.
Cameron Dicker stays second, while Eddy Pineiro and Cairo Santos receive small boosts because San Francisco and Chicago are expected to move the ball consistently.
Harrison Butker is another riser. Kansas City enters Week 2 with one of the stronger offensive projections on the slate, which should provide additional chances for both field goals and extra points.
The basic approach at kicker remains simple: prioritize good kickers attached to teams expected to score. That usually creates more opportunities than chasing last week’s results.
Week 2 DST outlook
The same team scoring projections can flip when you look at defenses.
San Francisco stands out because Miami enters Week 2 with one of the lowest expected point totals. The 49ers are coming off a dominant opener in which they held the Rams to seven points and forced two turnovers.
Tampa Bay also gets an appealing matchup against Cleveland, while Philadelphia faces a Tennessee offense expected to struggle to produce points. The Chargers also belong in that group against Las Vegas.
Week 1 results matter, but defensive fantasy scoring can swing quickly because of sacks and turnovers. Opponent scoring expectations provide a useful starting point without overreacting to one game.
