Fabrizio Romano claims deal close as two European giants eye Arsenal star

Bit-part wingers attract winter loans. Sixteen league starts in a title season is not nothing. Two substitute appearances the next August is how the calls start.

A manager on the verge of a new contract does not owe every expensive signing a place. The project is winning. The bench is crowded.

Pace and directness are what Diego Simeone buys. That is the sentence that appears whenever an English wide player is available in January.

Football365 report that Atletico Madrid and Juventus are monitoring Noni Madueke, with a January decision looming if his minutes stay low. CaughtOffside say both clubs are considering loan moves, possibly with an option to buy. No formal talks have begun.

“Sources close to the agents industry have informed CaughtOffside that both Atlético Madrid and Juventus are considering potential January moves for Madueke, with loan deals, possibly including an option to buy, viewed as the most realistic formula. No formal negotiations are said to have taken place yet, but Atlético see the England international as a player who could add pace and directness to Diego Simeone’s attack.”

Madueke cost £52million from Chelsea. He started 16 Premier League games last season and has two substitute league appearances this term, with Bukayo Saka fit. He was unused at Sunderland. Christos Tzolis and Eberechi Eze are also in the wide mix.

The same piece carries Fabrizio Romano on Mikel Arteta’s contract. Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Arsenal keep advancing in conversations in negotiations for Mikel Arteta new contract. It’s a top priority for Arsenal.

“The discussions are taking place, are going very well, I told you already March and April the contacts started with his camp, and now with his lawyers the conversation is reaching the final stages.

“So Mikel Arteta very, very close to signing a new contract at Arsenal. Fantastic atmosphere at the club. They are winning every single game but in general around the project fantastic atmosphere. So I expect Mikel Arteta definitely to sign a new contract at Arsenal.”

That matches the BBC and Mirror briefings of the last few days: nine months left on the current deal, improved wages, Garlick calling it a matter of time.

Two stories, one theme. Arteta’s position is strengthening as the team sit four from four. Madueke’s is not. If the England winger is still a late option in December, Atletico and Juventus will still be on the list. A loan with an option is the realistic route, not a forced sale of a £52million asset in winter. The decision, CaughtOffside say, comes soon only if the minutes do not.
