Trophy ambitions need a commercial engine as well as a midfield. Clubs that want to stay in the market for elite players keep inventing titles in the boardroom.
Partnerships, shops and the stadium sit in the same column now. One person owning that column is the modern model.
Internal promotions are how a club says the last three years worked. The job is new. The face is not.

Arsenal have appointed Omar Shaikh as their first chief revenue officer. He joins the executive team with an expanded brief covering partnerships, ventures, commercial venue and retail operations.
Shaikh arrived in 2023 and first led growth in the partnerships portfolio. In 2024 he took on the wider partnerships and ventures operation. The club say he has played a key role in evolving the commercial business since then.

The LinkedIn announcement reads: “In his new role, Omar will help drive revenue growth that supports our ambition to win major trophies, while keeping supporters at the heart of everything we do. This appointment reflects Omar’s leadership, expertise and contribution to Arsenal’s progress, and marks an exciting step as we continue to build for the future. Congratulations, Omar!”
There is no separate quote from Shaikh or from chief executive Richard Garlick on the post. The wording is the club’s. First ever CRO means the revenue functions that used to sit in different offices now report through one seat at executive level.
That matters on the pitch only in the indirect way. Arteta’s contract talks, the summer spends on Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa, and any January move for a forward all lean on what the commercial side can generate. A title-winning club still has to pay Champions League wages.
Supporters under the comments already asked the obvious question: growth that also keeps tickets bearable. The club line is trophies and supporters at the heart. The test of a CRO is whether those two stay in the same sentence when prices move.
Shaikh is not a first-team story. He is the person now tasked with funding one. Partnerships, the Emirates as a venue, retail and ventures sit with him. The football department will judge the appointment by whether the next window still has money in it.
