Heat predicted to go all-in for $347M 9x All-Star, NBA champion to pair with Giannis Antetokounmpo image
The Miami Heat still have one spot left on the roster and are in no rush to fill it, as the organization has already put together quite the squad. They have two future Hall of Famers in Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson.
Miami can choose to fill that final spot now, or they can wait until some point during the season. They have already been looking at some guard options.
“The Heat have weighed the likes of veteran backups Gabe Vincent and Cam Payne, but would prefer to find someone with a better upside. They do need a placeholder for that spot, though," Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney wrote.
They can sign veteran guards who will be good bench pieces, or wait until closer to the trade deadline when some of the bigger names become available. USA Today’s Wajih AlBaroudi believes the Heat could get another future Hall of Famer in Kyrie Irving.
“While Davion Mitchell is a much better defender than Irving, he isn't nearly the go-to perimeter scoring threat Irving is, and that's exactly what Miami needs after trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Age would become a concern for Miami if it started both Irving and 36-year-old Klay Thompson, however,” AlBaroudi wrote.
There is a real possibility that Irving becomes available at some point this season. Most teams are already keeping an eye on it.
“The Mavericks, as we've been writing since mid-June, have consistently swatted away trade interest this offseason in nine-times-an-All-Star guard Kyrie Irving. Rival teams, however, continue to wonder aloud about how firmly Dallas will stick to that stance once the season begins and the next in-season trade deadline on Feb. 11 gradually approaches. The primary factor fueling that curiosity, of course, is that fact that Irving is 34 and Mavericks star forward Cooper Flagg is 19. Not your average age gap between the team's two best players,” The Stein Line’s Marc Stein wrote.
Miami would certainly become a favorite with the New York Knicks if it can pull something like this off. Irving has made every team he has been on better and brings NBA championship experience.
Irving has made $347M in his career up to this point in his career. The Heat have gone after some of the best players in the league this summer, and Irving would fit right in with the blueprint of this summer.
