Everton receive significant Branthwaite fitness boost before Wolves

Everton reportedly believe Jarrad Branthwaite is now fit enough to cope with playing three games in a week.

The defender was outstanding in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Tottenham after a difficult period with injuries, and the latest update is another encouraging one for David Moyes.

Branthwaite fit enough to face Wolves

According to Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas, the belief at Everton is that Branthwaite has made enough progress to handle three games in a week.

That does not mean he will play against Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Moyes could rotate his side, particularly with Ipswich visiting the Hill Dickinson three days later, but Branthwaite is considered fit enough to feature if selected.

The update follows The Athletic’s Patrick Boyland revealing that the 24-year-old spent a month in Germany during the summer seeking solutions to his injury issues, after what was described as a “mentally tough” period. Branthwaite has since returned to regular action and was excellent at Tottenham, helping Everton keep a clean sheet as they extended their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Moyes also backed him to push for further England recognition after the game, with Branthwaite beginning to look much more like his old self. Whether Wednesday is a night for him or not, Everton can at least make that decision on football grounds rather than because of his fitness.
