The New York Giants demonstrated their determination with a 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, highlighted by the successful comeback of running back Cam Skattebo. However, despite the jaw-dropping comeback, Skattebo was irate after the match and also became a meme.
Midway through the tense game, Skattebo’s facemask was grabbed by Cowboys' star Quinnen Williams, which led to Skattebo's head snapping back. However, despite the concerning action, no flag was thrown. Shortly after this, as the cameras zoomed in on the 24-year-old's face, it was all bloodied.
While Skattebo's over-the-top celebration caught the eyes of the fans, it was his bloodied face that also became a talking point on social media. Skattebo suffered a gruesome leg injury last season, but he recovered in time and was back in the lineup for the season opener.
Fans connected his injury-prone nature to his bloodied face. “Dude is a walking injury scare,” wrote one fan. While another person commented, “He should have done a back flip over the defender, to the tent with dart. Dont worry the tent has central air.” While fans made fun of Skattebo's previous injury, another fan made sure to clear the rumors, “For all the idiots, this was the result of a facemask that wasn't called.” While several other fans also called out the referee's decision to not call the game when the spot happened.
