Hull City took a point from Stamford Bridge thanks to a 2-2 draw

Hull City have been handed a new verdict on the decision not to award Chelsea an injury-time penalty in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge. The Tigers took a deserved point from the game thanks to a 2-2 draw.
Chelsea took the lead in just the seventh minute through a Morgan Rogers strike. However, a quick-fire double from Mohamed Belloumi before half time saw City go into the break 2-1 up.
Joao Pedro drew Chelsea level in the 66th minute. As the Blues pushed for a winner, they shouted for a penalty when Estevao’s cross appeared to flick off Semi Ajayi’s hand.

The appeals were waved away by referee Farai Hallam. A background VAR check agreed with the onfield decision.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, former referee Dermot Gallagher also agreed that it wasn’t a penalty.
“He’s actually pulling his arms away, trying to put them behind his back, it flicks off his hands so close,” he said. “I think Jay (Bothroyd) would have been jumping up and down if he’d have given a penalty for that.”
Pundit Bothroyd said it would have been ‘crazy’ to give a penalty. “It’s definitely not, it’s definitely not a penalty, if you’re giving penalties for that it’s just crazy,” he said. “Like Dermot said, he’s trying to take his hand away from it.
“When you’re sprinting at that speed and you’re so close to a player and he’s trying to cross it, he’s trying to dink it and it’s clipped his fingers by the smallest margin. If you give a penalty for that it’s just laughable.”
Before the game, City boss Sergej Jakirovic joked that his team would ‘kick’ Chelsea to stop all of their attacking talent. Bothroyd suggested that while it was a joke, there may actually be an element of truth in the message.
“The funny thing about that is managers will say that, get in their faces, be more physical, because that is the only way lesser teams can really beat the top teams,” he said.
“You’ve got to play to your strengths, you’ve got to be more physical, you’ve got to be tight, you’ve got to use your body, you’ve got to try and upset people, you’ve got to ruffle the feathers.
“I don’t think going out there and kicking someone is kind of a cheat. But managers will tell the players that, we can’t beat them in a football match, so how do we match it up? The only way you can is to be physical within the laws of the game.”
