The Boston Celtics will be back together in a few weeks for training camp, and they're adding more players to the team beforehand. The latest addtition happens to be Devin Carter, who was just released by the Atlanta Hawks a few days ago.
“The Boston Celtics and Devin Carter have agreed to a deal, league sources told Hoopshype. Carter will compete for an NBA roster or two-way spot in camp. Carter averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes during 38 games for the Sacramento Kings last season,” Michael Scotto wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The Hawks traded for Carter during the offseason in a deal with the Sacramento Kings. With the roster crunch and the influx of guards on the team as the offseason went on, it made sense why the Hawks made the decision to part ways with Carter.
As for the Celtics, they seem to have enough space on their roster for Carter and it doesn't affect them much.

“The Celtics currently have 14 players on their activer roster and are about $1.7M below the luxury tax threshold. Boston also has one two-way spot available, with Dillon Mitchell and Amari Williams taking the other two,” Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints wrote on X.
It was rumored right after the Hawks waived Carter that the Celtics were interested in the guard. He hasn't been able to find much consistency in his first few years in the league, but showed late last season what he could do when he gets consistent minutes. Carter can get to the rim and plays defense, which fits well with what the Celtics do.
The only thing is his 3-point shooting isn't the best, and that could change a lot for him and the impact he makes on a team.
