The Celtics on Monday signed former Providence guard and first-round draft pick Devin Carter to an Exhibit 10 contract, according to a league source.
Players on Exhibit 10 deals receive $90,000 bonuses if they are waived and agree to join the team’s G League affiliate, but the source said Carter will have the opportunity during training camp to compete for Boston’s final regular roster spot, as well as its two-way-contract opening.
Carter spent his freshman season at South Carolina before transferring to Providence. As a junior in 2023-24, he averaged 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game and was named Big East Player of the Year.
Carter declared for the NBA Draft after that season and was chosen by the Kings with the 13th pick. Last season, he appeared in 38 games and averaged 8.9 points and 3.3 rebounds. He was traded to the Hawks in July, but Atlanta faced a roster crunch and waived Carter on Friday.
The Celtics open training camp on Sept. 29.
