Liverpool has been told it may have made a mistake by selling Caoimhin Kelleher last year, and that the goalkeeper could soon end up becoming a target for the club.
Kelleher was sold by the Reds in a $24 million deal to Brentford after 10 years on Merseyside, in which time he had worked his way up from the academy to become Alisson Becker’s deputy.
The Irishman was afforded plenty of opportunities in the first team due to Alisson’s injury problems in recent years, and he impressed when called upon. He had his sights set on becoming a No. 1 though, which led to his eventual departure.
Since joining Brentford, he has continued to underline his quality, having played all but one league game last season as Keith Andrews’ side narrowly missed out on European qualification.
According to former Republic of Ireland international Kevin Doyle, Kelleher is now among the best goalkeepers currently operating in the Premier League, and he feels Liverpool could soon be looking for a way to bring him back to Anfield.
Speaking to OLBG, who offer the Best Betting Sites, Doyle said: “I still can’t believe Liverpool let Caoimhin Kelleher go.

“I understand the reasons, Alisson was going to be number one, and maybe Caoimhin was desperate to leave, but they will likely be looking to sign him back, or someone of his quality, in a year or two.
“He'd have been perfect for Chelsea as well, but the timing probably wasn't right. After a good season this year, I expect he'll be off.
“As long as he stays fit and plays well, he is such a good keeper, a great shot-stopper, comfortable with his feet, and calm. He doesn't look to make mistakes, and if he does, it doesn't seem to bother him.

“If you were to list the goalkeepers in the Premier League, you'd have him in your top four or five. He won't stay at Brentford forever, they sell players when a big club comes in with a sufficient bid.
"Unless there's a major dip in form, I see him being at one of the big clubs in the next couple of years."
Despite Kelleher’s continued good form, Liverpool didn’t include a buy-back clause when he was sold to Brentford, meaning the Reds wouldn’t be able to get any sort of discount should they want to re-sign their former goalkeeper.
With Alisson in the final year of his contract, Liverpool could soon be looking toward his long-term replacement, with a deal having already been completed for Genk teenager Lucca Brughmans, who will spend the season back on loan in Belgium before making his move to Anfield.
