Liverpool Under-21s travelled to West Ham United on Monday night with a couple of youngsters not involved ahead of potential senior action in the League Cup

Liverpool have dropped a new team news hint ahead of their League Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur as Andoni Iraola prepares to rotate his side. The Reds host Spurs at Anfield on Tuesday night in the third round of competition, with the Spaniard already confirming at least one change.
Previewing the game, Iraola revealed that Giorgi Mamardashvili would start in goal in place of Alisson Becker, as he also confirmed he would turn to a number of his lesser-used players so far this season.
“Tomorrow we will see players we haven’t seen and I’m really looking forward to it because I feel they are going to play well or they can help us,” he said. “They haven’t had the chance so far.”
A number of the Reds’ younger players are expected to get opportunities as a result. And Liverpool dropped a hint at who would and wouldn’t be involved when they named their Under-21s squad to face West Ham United on Monday night.
Having been a regular in Iraola’s first team squad this season, Lewis Koumas was, as expected, not part of the Under-21s squad to face the Hammers.
Luke Chambers and James McConnell were also not involved for the trip to the capital, while Lucas Pitt was another absentee. The young defender featured for the first team in pre-season against Como at the AXA Training Centre.
However, Jayden Danns was named in Rob Page’s starting XI despite being named on the bench for last week’s Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid.
Mor Talla Ndiaye and Will Wright were also named in the young Reds’ starting XI, while Josh Sonni-Lambie was on the bench, having all featured for Iraola’s first team in pre-season.
Wellity Lucky and Isaac Mabaya also started, with the former making his senior debut in the League Cup last season and the latter having been named in Liverpool’s 25-man squads for both the Premier League and Champions League.
Elsewhere, the club confirmed the signing of Patrik Farkas ahead of facing West Ham, with the Hungarian named in the U21s’ matchday squad for the first time and among the substitutes as he rejoined the Reds following a spell with Blackburn Rovers.
