Warriors predicted to trade Steph Curry to Spurs for $261M versatile duo in blockbuster deal image
The Golden State Warriors tried to get some major moves done in free agency at the beginning, but nothing came to fruition. The Warriors would go on to sign subpar names for the upcoming season.
With Steph Curry’s career coming to an end in a few years, the offseason was viewed as disappointing by some.
“The Golden State Warriors' offseason is quickly going off the rails, with them having done little to improve thus far. The Warriors failing to improve their roster this summer should come as a massive disappointment to star Steph Curry," Hoops Habit's Cal Durrett wrote.
Curry is set to get an extension, but there has been no agreement on that. With Golden State’s disappointing offseason, ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins has already urged Curry to find a way out of the Bay Area.
“Steph needs to be planning his exit strategy from the Golden State Warriors," said Perkins on 'NBA Today'. "Think about it, over the last four years, the Warriors have been in the play-in tournament. And this year, the way that the West is stacked up, they're gonna be a play-in tournament team again. You can't waste any more time hoping and banking that Mike Dunleavy is gonna get it right or is gonna make the moves that are needed to make sure that you can compete for a title, especially in a tough Western Conference.”
Trade rumors started to swirl once this became a possibility. Heavy.com’s Sai Mohan has a trade package that sends Curry to the San Antonio Spurs for De’Aaron Fox, Luke Kornet and draft capital.
“Spurs would receive: Stephen Curry. Warriors would receive: De’Aaron Fox, Luke Kornet, 2027 first-round pick (via ATL), 2028 first-round pick (via SAS), 2030 first-round pick (via SAS) and 2031 first-round pick (via SAC) — all unprotected,” Mohan wrote.
This would be an absolute blockbuster deal and would make the Spurs the Finals favorites. Curry would be an absolute nightmare for other teams in a system with Victor Wembanyama.
Kornet and Fox’s contracts combine for $261 million. The Warriors would look to begin somewhat of a rebuild if they trade Curry. This deal would be great for both sides as they would get pieces they need.
