Chelsea are reportedly considering a huge January move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez as Xabi Alonso looks to strengthen his options.
A fresh report carried by Football365 claims Chelsea are prepared to test Barcelona with an offer worth around €140million (£120m).
Alonso is said to view Fermin as a priority because of his ability to influence matches without Chelsea needing to dominate possession.
The interest comes after Chelsea allowed Enzo Fernandez to join Manchester City and subsequently failed to complete a deadline-day move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.

Fermin Lopez starts season in outstanding form
Fermin’s early-season performances make Chelsea’s reported interest particularly notable.
The 23-year-old has already produced four goals and two assists in five La Liga appearances this season, starting four matches and playing 371 minutes according to La Liga’s official statistics.
Barcelona are not believed to be actively looking to sell.
Football365’s report, citing claims from Spain, says manager Hansi Flick values Fermin highly and that negotiations would require an exceptional offer.
That makes a January agreement far from straightforward.
But Chelsea’s interest would make tactical sense.
Fermin offers goals from midfield, aggressive off-ball running and the ability to arrive in attacking areas rather than simply dictate possession from deep.
Those characteristics would give Alonso something different alongside Chelsea’s existing midfield options.
For now, the reported £120m figure should be treated as a transfer claim rather than evidence that a formal offer has been submitted.
But after Chelsea’s late summer search for another midfielder, Fermin is a name worth watching as January approaches.
