INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) — The Colts lost in the season opener on Sunday to the Ravens, 41-23.
WRTV Colts Insider Kevin Bowen said the most shocking part of the performance is how the Colts lost.
“18-point losses in your own building are not very common in the NFL,” Bowen said. “You had a healthy starting group. I mean, really, 20, 30, probably the top 40 players for the Colts were healthy. The Colts had the continuity on their coaching staff. Baltimore, first-time head coach, first-time play caller. That, to me, it’s not necessarily you lost. I think Baltimore’s a pretty quality team. It’s how you lost, over 500 yards of offense.”
The Colts defense allowed 506 yards to the Ravens on Sunday.
Bowen has covered the Colts for 16 years and is a radio host for 107.5 The Fan, hosting “The Fan Morning Show.”
Bowen analyzed what he saw from Colts quarterback Daniel Jones in his first game back after his Achilles injury.
“His health is the first thing, his availability. Check that box,” Bowen said. “But you need to see a little bit more effectiveness from him and the passing game.”
Jones was 19-for-31 passing for 166 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Ravens.
Up next for the Colts is a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Bowen did not undersell how important that game is for the Colts as they look to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
“I think it’s a huge moment,” Bowen said. “I usually don’t say that about a mid-September game. But, I think it has that type of magnitude.”
Kickoff against the Chiefs is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. on Sunday.
