After ESPN gave Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) a platform to push for the Protect College Sports Act, with no opposing view offered, the NAACP [challenged ESPN](https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/naacp-takes-issue-with-espns-handling-of-the-protect-college-sports-act) to provide its president, Derrick Johnson, with a similar opportunity this weekend, when _College GameDay_ goes to Oxford, Mississippi.
Johnson will appear on ESPN, but not on Saturday.
Via John Ourand of _Puck_, ESPN has booked Johnson to appear on Tuesday’s _SportsCenter_ at 6:00 p.m. ET.
ESPN offered airtime on Tuesday, in the event the Senate votes on the bill before Saturday. Regardless, it will be a much smaller audience than the _GameDay_ viewership.
And even if the Senate votes by Saturday, the bill will still go to the House of Representatives. The only way to truly balance Saturday’s gesture would be to give someone from the opposing side the same runway Cruz received on Saturday.
At this point, of course, it’s more about P.R. and less about truly presenting the opposing view. Based on Disney’s lobbying efforts, the company wants the bill to pass.
