The New York Knicks are facing significant competition for their well-known free-agency target ahead of next NBA season.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Knicks are in the mix alongside the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and the Toronto Raptors for John Konchar.
"John Konchar is one of the top free agents available and has drawn interest, league sources say, from Miami, New York, Orlando and Toronto," the report noted.
Raptors limited in signing John Konchar
All three of the Knicks, Magic, and Heat are financially capable of pursuing Konchar, however, the Raptors are significantly limited by their lack of salary-cap flexibility.
Due to the Kawhi Leonard blockbuster trade, Toronto is financially restricted in their hopes of signing the veteran.
"Yet the Raptors sit just $2.3 million under the first apron with a total of only 13 guaranteed contracts after reacquirng Leonard. The other three teams do have just enough apron flexibility to add one more player; both Florida teams have 14 players on standard contracts and the Knicks currently have 13," Stein added.
John Konchar's hustle, defense being pursued by top East teams
John Konchar truly remains one of the notable free agents available on the market.
He was previously traded by the Utah Jazz, alongside Cody Williams, to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Josh Green and cash considerations this offseason. The Wolves subsequently waived him using the waive-and-stretch provision.
Konchar played 56 games for the Memphis Grizzlies and Jazz during the 2025-26 season and averaged 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.9 minutes per game.
