While the summer transfer window might have closed, teams are already preparing to do business in January – and to keep you up-to-date with all the likely comings and goings, we’re back with our regular morning round-up of the biggest new Premier League transfer rumours, starting today with a story involving both Liverpool and Chelsea.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are “poised to battle” the Blues in the race to sign Roma midfielder Manu Koné, the France international who is one of Chelsea’s key targets as they search for a long-term replacement for the departed Enzo Fernánez.

Chelsea weren’t able to negotiate a deal for Koné before the end of the summer window – and ended up bidding for Monaco’s Lamine Camara instead – but the 25-year-old remains on Xabi Alonso’s radar heading into the winter. Liverpool, however, are now said to be showing the “strongest interest.”
The Reds are alleged to have made an “enquiry” concerning the terms of a potential deal, and while the price tag isn’t discussed in this report, most sources suggest that Roma will demand around €60m (£51m) to let Koné leave.
The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool seem to be getting ready to replace Alexis Mac Allister if they ultimately decide to move on from the Argentine, and Koné seems like a natural replacement should that happen. As such, this is a perfectly plausible story, but Chelsea’s interest is far better established and we’d be surprised if they didn’t keep a close eye on the Frenchman’s progress over the coming months.
Newcastle ‘considering’ meeting €60m release clause

Over to a story from Sport Witness now, who claim that Newcastle United are “considering” the possibility of activating the release clause of Real Sociedad midfielder Luka Sučić – a move which would apparently set them back €60m (£51m).
Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle worked with the Croatia international at Red Bull Salzburg and this story, which cites sources in the Spanish press, suggests that he’d be keen on a reunion with his former colleague.
The article speculatively acknowledges that there is “every chance” that Sociedad would settle for a lesser sum if they decided to sell the 24-year-old Sučić, who has scored twice in his first six La Liga games this season.
The 3AM Verdict: Sučić is the kind of all-action midfielder that Newcastle are keen on, but this reads like a purely speculative story. One to keep an eye on, perhaps, but there’s little to suggest that it’s an especially solid rumour at this point in time.

We’ll circle right back around to Liverpool for our final story of the day, which also comes from TEAMtalk – they allege that the Reds are “ready to go toe-to-toe” with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the pursuit of PSV starlet Paul Wanner.
The 20-year-old Austria international is also of some interest to Manchester City, the article adds, although Liverpool’s interest is discussed in rather more detail. Apparently they see him as another strong long-term addition to the midfield, and are “keeping tabs” on his progress over the coming months.
PSV are said to want to keep Wanner for the remainder of the 2026/27 season, which could scupper any chances of a January move, but also to value him at up to €50m (£43m), which perhaps gives Liverpool an idea of what they might have to pay to change their mind.
The 3AM Verdict: The primary source for this story appears to be a Polish media outlet whose reliability we frankly can’t comment on, but Wanner has certainly attracted plenty of interest after an impressive year in the Eredivisie. We wouldn’t be surprised if Liverpool were among the big-name teams to throw their hat into the ring when the time comes.
