Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce shook off the offseason rust and made a key play in their one-sided win over the Denver Broncos, 31-10, at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
Because, as that one singer that Kelce is quite familiar with once said, players gonna play, play, play, play, play.
With a little over six minutes left in the third quarter, Kelce caught a pass from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Kelce knew exactly what to do. He ran for 59 yards before getting stopped at the four-yard line, hyping up the home crowd, which included Kelce's wife, pop star Taylor Swift.
After the game, the 36-year-old Kelce had one thing in his mind during the play.
“Gotta find a way to get my ass in the end zone,” said the three-time champion in the video posted by The Athletic's Jesse Newell.
With his run, Kelce surpassed NFL legend Jason Witten for the second-most receiving yards by a tight end in league history.
Kelce, who is in his 14th year with the Chiefs, finished with three receptions for 71 yards.
Many thought he would retire, especially after his marriage to Swift in July. The seven-time All-Pro, however, said he would like to play “until the wheels fall off.”
“I still have the desire to go out there and compete, and I still think I can compete at a high level,” said Kelce on “Good Morning America.”
“I love this game so much that I’m not ready to go into that next phase yet.”
The Chiefs will host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
