Andoni Iraola’s side enters the competition later than its opponent thanks to its European qualification, and the Reds’ boss will be hoping to pick up a morale-boosting win following the weekend’s disappointing goalless draw against Fulham.
Spurs have already had to come through one game to reach this stage of the cup, having beaten Charlton in the second round last month. That remains the only win for Roberto De Zerbi’s side this season - and the only time his team have actually scored any goals.

The game kicks off at 8 pm UK time on Septemer 4 at Anfield. For fans in the US, that's 3 pm Eastern Time and 12 noon Pacific Time.

Viewers in the UK will be able to watch all the action live for FREE on ITV4, while streaming is also available via ITVX, with coverage getting underway at 7:30 pm. The game is also live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football, with coverage starting at 7 pm, while streaming is available on Sky Go and Now TV.

Andoni Iraola has confirmed Giorgi Mamardashvili will start against Tottenham
Andoni Iraola has hinted he will rotate his squad for the Carabao Cup, with the only confirmed starter so far being Giorgi Mamardashvili as he deputizes for Alisson Becker in goal.
As for the visitors, Tottenham has a number of high-profile names missing for the trip to Anfield, with Sandro Tonali confirmed to be out injured.
Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro have also been ruled out, while Mykhailo Mudryk, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain sidelined. Roberto De Zerbi has also confirmed Richarlison will not be involved, despite being available after his transfer to Vasco Da Gama fall through.
Destiny Udogie though is back in contention, while Andy Robertson could make his first appearance back at Anfield after leaving Liverpool during the summer.
