The Walt Disney Company on Monday, September 14, released the trailer for ‘Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry,’ its upcoming documentary about the Golden State Warriors superstar’s journey to 4,000 career three-point shots made.
“I’ve been around basketball my whole life, but the more I play, the more I start to see it differently. For me, it’s never been just a game; it’s always felt more like an art,” Stephen Curry says at the beginning of the trailer.

The movie is expected to release exclusively in IMAX theaters on October 9. And as expected, the Warriors fans were fired up to see their superstar on the big screen. They flooded social media with reactions that make it obvious that the entire Dub Nation is looking forward to watching this movie.

“We will be watching! This is absolute cinema!”
“Nice, I always love basketball movies.”
“The changing of everything written by the guy himself.”
“My favorite film genre! We will be seated.”
Several such reactions on social media show that people are eager to know the story behind what happened on March 13, 2025, when Curry eclipsed the mark of 4000 three-point shots made in his career against the Sacramento Kings at the Chase Center.
The Warriors won 130-104, and Curry had an off night. He finished with 11 points, five assists, and two rebounds while shooting 4-9 from the field (44.4% FG) and 2-6 from behind the three-point line (33.3% 3P).
Gotham Chopra directed the movie and recently gave a statement to the Hollywood Reporter about it.
“This film is all about capturing Steph Curry, an athlete and artist who is always chasing a new masterpiece. With the court as his canvas, we wanted to show the world the relentless creativity and discipline that drives one of the greatest ever to play the game. We are thrilled to be able to share this film in IMAX with audiences across the country.”
According to Marcelo Gantman of Big Data Sports, the production team shot this 70-minute documentary on game day using 21 IMAX cameras for “the preparation and the record-breaking moment with a quality that TV broadcasts don’t have.”
“The focus on Curry aims to portray him as an artist, with exploration of his creative processes and discipline for repetition. As interesting as it is ambitious,” Gantman noted.
Stephen Curry will enter the 2026-27 season with 4,248 career three-point shots made. It will certainly be fascinating to see how far Curry can push that number by the time he retires. Whatever it is, it will likely be a record we will never see broken again.
