Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso says he is hoping to have Jordan Henderson available for Friday’s game against Brentford.

The 36-year-old has been training for more than two weeks, but speaking about the player’s fitness, Alonso said:

“He has been training very well, but it is still frustrating for him that, even though it is his arm, it is taking that long. I think he is in the last stage of his recovery.”

Henderson had surgery on a wrist injury which he sustained in a freak accident at the World Cup.

Emmanuel Emegha

The striker is currently sidelined with an unspecified injury. He did pick up a hamstring problem during a friendly in July, but he had been pictured back in training last month.

It looks like Emegha has faced another setback, but Alonso hinted that the Dutchman may be back in contention for the match against the Bees.

Marco Palestra

Alonso says the Italian international has an outside chance of making the matchday squad for Chelsea’s next game.

However, he seemed to hedge his bets slightly by also suggesting that Palestra may not be ready before the international break:

‘He’s almost in the last stages of the recovery, so we will see. If not [fit for] Brentford, then Bournemouth for sure.’

Palestra has not made his competitive debut for the club due to an unspecified fitness problem.
