Jeremy Jacquet is in Zinedine Zidane’s provisional France squad for the upcoming international break, with the Liverpool defender considered for the first time.
Zidane will name the first squad of his reign on Friday, September 18, and Jacquet could be among those called up.
The 21-year-old has been included in the new France manager’s provisional squad for their UEFA Nations League clashes with Turkey (Sep 25), Belgium (Sep 28) and Italy (Oct 2).
L’Equipe reports that Jacquet has been pre-selected along with a number of other uncapped players including Brighton’s Olivier Boscagli.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool’s new No. 5 will be part of the final squad but there appears a strong chance he could do so.

Lens centre-back Ismaelo Ganiou is also in the provisional squad while Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba, Maxence Lacroix, Lucas Hernandez and Jules Kounde were regulars under Didier Deschamps.
But Jacquet’s progress at Rennes and now Liverpool positions him as one of the finest centre-back prospects in world football.
He has made the transition to the Premier League and Champions League appear seamless and has been among the standout performers in Andoni Iraola’s side so far.
Jacquet has represented France through the age groups and is still eligible for the U21s, for whom he has made five appearances including three last season before dislocating his shoulder.
He is likely to be on duty during the international break in some capacity, which could be seen as a blow of sorts to Liverpool.
Iraola is still without Giovanni Leoni and is likely to see three of his other starting centre-back options – Jacquet, Virgil van Dijk and Ronald Araujo – called up by their countries.
Joe Gomez has only just returned from a muscle injury picked up during pre-season.

Van Dijk has held talks with new Netherlands head coach Xavi as he mulls over retirement from international football, but he is expected to remain available.
Speaking to reporters including The Athletic‘s James Pearce last month, the Liverpool captain indicated that the decision rested with Xavi himself.
“Everyone wants to feel appreciated, loved and important,” Van Dijk admitted.
“I feel like I’m still very much valuable and important for the team.
“If the manager sees it that way then we’re going to have another good two years. If not then we will see. I will have the meeting with him and then we’ll go from there.”
