Liverpool's chances of winning silverware this season could all depend on the team's success in the domestic cup competitions, with the hope of landing a trophy or two by the end of the campaign.
While the FA Cup will have to wait until the start of 2027 for the Reds to enter, the EFL Cup continues this week, with an opportunity to win the first trophy up for grabs this season.
A tough test at home to Tottenham will set the team off in the third round, with a victory from the encounter likely to come as a huge boost for Andoni Iraola after a stuttering start to the overall campaign. Considering the manager's style of play, there may be some rotation needed in the cup competitions to keep everyone fresh, with the games coming as a perfect opportunity to give fringe players and upcoming academy stars some minutes on the field.

So, with that said, here's a look at five players to look out for in cup games for Liverpool this season.
Trey Nyoni

Trey Nyoni impressed during preseason for Liverpool, showing plenty of calm and poise on the ball, as well as an ability to compete physically at the level.
With Curtis Jones leaving to join Inter Milan, there is an expectation that the academy prospect will now receive more minutes, though he is waiting for his first start in the Premier League.
That's where the cup competitions could hand Nyoni a chance to impress from the start, putting him in an environment to succeed without the pressure to perform right away.
Giorgi Mamardashvili

Alisson was heavily linked with an exit in the summer, but his eventual stay means he will be the number one for the season. That means fewer opportunities for Giorgi Mamardashvili to star.
However, the Georgian international will get his chances in the cup competitions, with Iraola revealing that the goalkeeper will feature against Tottenham in the EFL Cup opener.
Jayden Danns

Liverpool is lacking in centre-forwards for the moment, with Hugo Ekitike's injury meaning that Alexander Isak is the only recognized central striker available.
With the workload he is likely to go through this season, the Reds may need to turn to other options up front, which is where Jayden Danns comes in.
The academy striker has been unfortunate with injuries during his career so far, but when he has been fit and available, he has shown quality and pace that would frighten any defender.
Danns could also keep the 134-year record of having a local player feature during the season, with the recent loss of Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Lewis Koumas

Iraola made the bold decision to keep Lewis Koumas at Liverpool this season, quickly rejecting any transfer approach for the winger in the summer.
The manager is keen on the forward's energy and intensity, and while he may not feature from the start in the Premier League, he could be handed more opportunities in the cup matches.
Josh Abe

Unfortunately for Liverpool, youngster Josh Abe won't be available for the new few months due to injury, but when he is available again, the Reds could see his talent on the senior stage.
The forward rejected offers from elsewhere to stay at Anfield and work his way through the youth ranks to compete for a place in the team.
While he is still just 16, there is a chance that Abe could make his debut at some point in the cup this season, which could mark his arrival with the senior team.
