Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes delivered for his team Monday night, but he also apparently delivered one sports bettor a moment he will never forget.
After Mahomes scored the game’s first touchdown against the Denver Broncos, a video of a bettor celebrating the long-shot wager quickly made the rounds on social media. The reaction was wild enough to eventually catch Mahomes’ attention.
Gavin McHugh posted the video on X with the caption, “Patrick Mahomes first TD +2000 Live reaction: 💀💀🤣🤣.”
The clip showed just how much the unlikely score meant to the bettor in real time. Mahomes eventually came across McHugh’s post and responded with six laughing emojis.

Six laughing emojis might not qualify as an official statement from the three-time Super Bowl champion, but it did not require much interpretation. One laughing emoji can be an acknowledgment. Six of them made it appear Mahomes genuinely got a kick out of seeing what his touchdown meant to someone watching at home.
Patrick Mahomes Gives Bettor a Night to Remember
The wager itself required Mahomes to do something that is far from the primary responsibility of an NFL quarterback: score the first touchdown of the game himself. Mahomes did exactly that against Denver, turning a long-shot bet into a winner and setting off the viral celebration. His response afterward only made the moment better for the bettor involved.
Mahomes has spent most of his career making improbable plays feel routine, but predicting exactly how those plays will happen is another challenge entirely. A bettor putting money behind Mahomes to score the game’s first touchdown needed a very specific sequence of events to unfold. When it did, there was little reason to keep the celebration under control.
The moment also offered a lighter side of the relationship between NFL stars and the enormous sports-betting audience surrounding the league. Mahomes had nothing to do with the wager itself, but social media allowed him to see the reaction his touchdown created almost immediately. Rather than ignore it, the Chiefs star joined in on the fun.

For the bettor, cashing a +2000 ticket was already enough to make Monday night memorable. Getting Mahomes himself to react to the celebration added another layer that no sportsbook could have offered. The six laughing emojis essentially became the final stamp on an already ridiculous sequence.

There is also something uniquely fitting about Mahomes being at the center of the moment. Few players in football have produced more unbelievable highlights, late-game escapes and unconventional plays during the past decade. This time, however, one of the night’s funniest highlights came from somebody watching him rather than Mahomes himself.
Sports betting produces plenty of painful reactions every weekend, particularly when a ticket misses by a single play. This bettor landed on the opposite end of that experience and made sure everyone watching knew it. Mahomes apparently found the celebration just as funny as everybody else.
