**Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen is backing Alexander Isak to “score plenty of goals” for the Reds this season.**
The Swedish international has been the subject of plenty of criticism since his British record move from Newcastle last summer, but Owen thinks fans are poised to see the very best of Isak, with the player having overcome his injury problems:
“He’s started well this season. Isak has scored a few goals now and looks sharp; I think he will continue to have a very good season and score plenty of goals.”
“Injuries as a striker, especially the way Isak plays (as I know), it takes time to get back to your top level again…”
“Isak also had the World Cup, but has looked good so far this season; I like him a lot, and he absolutely can be a very big player for the club this season.”
Owen’s former teammate has set Isak a goal target
-------------------------------------------------
Emile Heskey was Owen’s strike partner at Liverpool for several years, and he also discussed Isak’s situation last week, [**stating**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-news-alexander-isak-heskey/) that the 26-year-old should be scoring a “minimum” of 20 goals.
That doesn’t seem to be much to ask from someone who was signed for £125m, but we shall see if he can reach that figure. So far this campaign, Isak has found the back of the net 3 times in 5 games.
Liverpool need to play to his strengths
---------------------------------------
It’s noticeable that Isak has looked at his most impressive for the Reds when playing away from home. This is not a coincidence.
The forward likes to have space to run into, and he is more likely to get that on the road when opponents play higher up the pitch. As we saw on Saturday against Fulham, teams tend to sit a lot deeper at Anfield, negating one of his main strengths.
It is up to Iraola to find ways of getting Isak into positions where he can be at his most effective, and score the goals everyone knows he’s capable of.
