Manchester United’s continuing interest in Jarrad Branthwaite, Jack Grealish’s Everton future and a fierce assessment of The Friedkin Group have all provided talking points on a busy Tuesday.
Attention is also turning firmly towards Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup meeting with Wolves at the Hill Dickinson, while Richarlison’s increasingly strange situation at Tottenham has taken another turn.
Here is today’s Everton news and talking points.
Man Utd still watching Branthwaite
Manchester United reportedly retain an interest in Jarrad Branthwaite as they begin planning changes to their defence next summer.
TalkSPORT transfer correspondent Alex Crook reports that the 24-year-old remains on United’s radar after their two failed attempts to sign him in 2024. Everton, however, have Branthwaite contracted until June 2030 and there is no suggestion they are looking to sell.
Grealish and the Wolves balancing act
Attention now turns towards Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup tie, when David Moyes has decisions to make over how heavily to rotate his side after Saturday’s goalless draw at Tottenham.
We looked at why Jack Grealish could help Moyes avoid repeating last season’s costly Wolves mistake, when seven changes preceded a 2-0 defeat at Molineux at the same stage of the competition. Grealish could get useful minutes at the Hill Dickinson without Moyes having to strip too much experience from his team.

Everton stance on permanent Grealish move emerges
There has also been another Grealish development away from Wednesday’s game, with Football Insider claiming Everton would be open to signing him permanently next summer if he impresses during his second loan spell.
Grealish’s Manchester City contract expires in June 2027, potentially making him available without a transfer fee. That remains some way off and the claim is only a report at this stage, but Everton have almost an entire season to decide whether another reunion should become something more permanent.
TFG accused of treating Everton with ‘contempt’
Paul Quinn, the Everton financial analyst and writer behind The Esk, has delivered an unusually fierce assessment of The Friedkin Group, accusing TFG of treating Everton with “contempt”.
It is Quinn’s judgement rather than ours. He readily acknowledges that TFG “unquestionably rescued Everton’s balance sheet”, but questions what he sees as a lack of presence and communication from the ownership since the takeover was completed.
Latest 777 twist provides reminder of alternative
That ownership discussion came on the same day as another extraordinary development involving the group that once came close to buying Everton.
With 777 Partners now in bankruptcy proceedings, Kieran Maguire reflected on Everton’s lucky escape following the latest twist involving bankruptcy funding from Leadenhall Capital Partners.
“I know Everton fans frustrated with current owners but this would have been far, far worse,” the football finance expert wrote.
Richarlison remains in Tottenham limbo
Former Everton favourite Richarlison remains outside Roberto De Zerbi’s plans at Tottenham after his proposed £35m return to Merseyside collapsed late in the summer window.
Despite remaining eligible for the Carabao Cup, Richarlison was left out against Liverpool, while De Zerbi revealed he had repeatedly tried to persuade the Brazilian to stay at Spurs. There is no suggestion Everton are preparing another move, but his position will inevitably continue to attract attention after the talks which took place only a fortnight ago.
Academy pair pushing for Wolves opportunity
Wednesday could also provide an opportunity for two of Everton’s youngsters, with Braiden Graham and Malik Olayiwola pushing for Carabao Cup involvement after both travelled with the first-team squad to Tottenham.
Graham made the bench for the goalless draw, while Olayiwola was part of the travelling party. Neither is assured of involvement against Wolves, but Moyes has already acknowledged that Everton may have to lean on their academy during the season because of the relatively small senior squad.
