Chelsea would be unable to register Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel if the 15-year-old becomes available following his shock request to leave Old Trafford.
Gabriel has asked United to cancel his registration after refusing to train on Tuesday, just one day before Michael Carrick’s side face Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
The teenager had been in contention to join United’s senior squad for the tie and potentially become the youngest player in the club’s history.

He scored 26 goals in 29 appearances last season and recently hit a UEFA Youth League hat-trick against Sabah.

Chelsea academy ban blocks immediate Gabriel move
There is no confirmation Chelsea intend to pursue Gabriel.
However, the Blues would currently be prevented from registering him even if an opportunity emerged.
Chelsea confirmed in their that a nine-month academy registration restriction began immediately on 16 March.
The sanction applies specifically to academy players who have been registered with another Premier League or EFL club during the previous 18 months.
Gabriel therefore falls directly within its scope.
Chelsea’s restriction should run until December, while Gabriel cannot sign professional terms with any club until he turns 17 in October 2027.
United believe the situation can still be resolved and have not accepted that Gabriel can simply walk away from his existing registration.
The youngster previously considered leaving Old Trafford in 2025 before being convinced to remain.
Barcelona and Manchester City are among the clubs reported to have monitored Gabriel previously, meaning his future could attract considerable interest if United cannot resolve the dispute.
For Chelsea, however, their current academy sanction means any immediate move is effectively off the table.
