Paul George has been a leader and a player his teammates can rely on. Now with the [Celtics](https://nesn.com/boston-celtics), he understands and respects that there is one true leader in Boston.
At his introductory press conference after being traded to the Celtics from the 76ers, George knew he had a lot of shoes to fill. Philadelphia traded him for Jaylen Brown. Celtics fans weren’t happy, and George understood. He also hopes they will give him a fair chance.
"To be honest, it's fair, but, you know, just one foot in front of the other. Hopefully, with how we start this year, they understand this is a new team and something that they can be proud of," George [said](https://x.com/CelticsCLNS/status/2099904300893851916?s=20).
A nine-time All-Star, George was a massive star with the Pacers. He grew as a player with the Thunder and attempted to win a ring with the Clippers and 76ers. George averaged 17.3 points per game last season.
George is ready to play with Jayson Tatum. Tatum came back last season after a major Achilles injury, helping the Celtics in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Brown put the team on his back in Tatum’s absence.
At 36, George understands that Tatum will lead the team. He welcomes the opportunity to support Tatum and the Celtics in any way.
"I'm here to help J.T. He's the guy," George said. "I've played alongside another superstar wing, and we coexisted beautifully. I see this with myself, with J.T., being able to play off him… being able to still kind of being a mentor."
A healthy and motivated George, owed over $50 million this year, is ready to contribute to a Celtics team led by Tatum and coach Joe Mazzulla.
The first time George and the Celtics will face the 76ers during the 2026-27 season: November 10 in Philadelphia.
