Liverpool fans gave Andy Robertson a rapturous reception as the Reds legend made his first visit back to Anfield with Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
Robertson was made to wait to receive the adulation of the Liverpool supporters after being named on the bench by Roberto De Zerbi, although his name was loudly cheered when it was announced ahead of kick-off.
His new side's woes continued in his absence, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo putting the Reds in control at 2-0. Spurs are still yet to pick up a win or score a goal in the Premier League this season, with their only triumph so far having come in the second round of the cup against Charlton last month.
Robertson eventually got his moment just before the hour mark, with Liverpool fans giving him a standing ovation as he made his way on as a subtitute and reprising the song they sung throughout his nine-year spell with the Reds.
The reception was fitting for a player who firmly wrote himself into the club's history books, having been one of the cornerstones of the Liverpool side built by Jurgen Klopp which would go on to win the Champions League and a first Premier League title in 30 years.
Robertson of course added a second league crown last year, but with his contract expiring during the most recent summer, the curtain was brought down on his time on Merseyside.

He had been eyed for a move to Tottenham back in January, but remained with Liverpool for the rest of the season before his switch to north London was confirmed later in the year, but not before an emotional farewell to Anfield.
“The supporters are what make Liverpool Football Club what it is," Robertson wrote in a letter to the club's fans before his final game. "They are the club. The connection I’ve built with them is something I’ll carry with me forever.

“To be part of a team that delivered success for them will always mean everything to me. The special days and nights, the trophies, the celebrations, the parades — those memories will stay with me forever. But honestly, I think the difficult moments matter just as much too. The ones where we fell short, where we suffered together, where the whole city felt the disappointment alongside us.
“Because that’s what made the bond so special. We won together, we lost together, we laughed, celebrated, cried and mourned together. We went through all of it together. There was always a feeling that the supporters and the team were pulling in the same direction, fighting for each other. I’ll forever be grateful I got the chance to be part of that.”
