The NBA preseason is right around the corner and club's are signing some extra depth to their rosters. The Washington Wizards made what could be an underrated move on Tuesday, to help improve the front court.
Reports indicate that the organization is re-signing Anthony Gill to the team, according to insider Brett Siegel. The 33-year-old has played for Washington the past six seasons.
“The Wizards are re-signing Anthony Gill,” Siegel reported.
Gill didn't make his NBA debut until he was 28 years old. His professional career began overseas after he finished his collegiate career in 2016 with the Virginia Cavaliers. He originally signed with the Wizards ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, and has appeared in 26 games or more each year ever since.

Anthony Gill averaged a career high 17.3 minutes per game last year, which is a career high. In 55 games played (eight starts), the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 5.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, all of which are career highs. He hit those numbers while shooting 62.8% from the field and 35.4% from beyond the three-point line.
His playing time for the 2026-27 season may not be as prominent as it was last year. The Wizards are expecting Anthony Davis to return from injury after acquiring him in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks. Additionally, Khris Middleton is likely to serve as the immediate backup power forward to help stretch the floor.
Gill will likely compete for playing time with Justin Champagnie and Will Riley. However, Riley has the ability to play the three spot. So, Anthony Gill and Champagnie could the reserves deep on the Wizards' bench.
