Adam Silver is simply jubilant about how the New York Knicks fanbase continues to celebrate their 2026 NBA championship run.
In his media conference on Tuesday, the league commissioner expressed happiness about the Knicks winning it all and how their fans have been reacting since.
"For me, living here in the New York market, it's been exciting to see how enthusiastic the entire community has been, not just Knicks fans, around this Knicks championship," Silver said. "I live in Manhattan. People are coming up to me all the time telling me how meaningful it is to have experienced a championship, how much they wish a parent or a grandparent was still around to share it with them. I always get a kick out of the roughly 20-something-year-olds telling me how they waited 53 years for a championship.
"But in all seriousness, it was a great reminder to everyone in the room just exactly what sports mean and what this league means to people."
Knicks win first NBA title since 1973
The New York Knicks have been crowned the NBA champions of the 2025-26 season, effectively ending their franchise's 53-year title drought.
The Knicks delivered one of the most compelling playoff runs of all time via a dominant 16-3 record to be the league's best.
They knocked off the Atlanta Hawks in six games of the opening round and swept both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Cleveland Cavaliers to reach the NBA Finals. In the best-of-seven championship series, they completely overwhelmed Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in five games.
Jalen Brunson was named the Finals MVP, averaging 32.6 points, 4.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds.
The Knicks will commence their 2026-27 title defense with an opening night showdown against LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 20.
