There is plenty of confidence around Jalen Duren to take a massive gamble instead of considering the Detroit Pistons' offer amid his embattled free-agency situation with the franchise this offseason.
This thinking, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, stems from Duren's belief that the Sacramento Kings will give him a huge payday next offseason.
"Jalen Duren is emboldened to some degree to potentially take that qualifying offer because he knows the Sacramento Kings have a lot of interest in potentially giving him a maximum salary contract if he were to reach unrestricted free agency," Fischer said on Bleacher Report.
Jalen Duren, Pistons still at free agency standoff
Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are still stuck in the market amid a highly dramatic dispute over their future.
Duren, a restricted free agent, is heavily disgruntled with the Pistons' contract offer and desire to keep him at a lower cost.
Previously, it was revealed that Duren is seeking more than $200 million in his next deal, reportedly rejecting Detroit's five-year, $190 million offer.
Duren had a breakout 2025-26 campaign where he became a first-time All-Star and an All-NBA Third Team member who anchored the Pistons' 60-win season. However, a historically brutal NBA Playoff drop-off completely impacted his market value.
The Sacramento Kings have been constantly linked to Duren throughout this offseason, and general manager Scott Perry has a significant relationship with him.
NBA insider expects Jalen Duren, Pistons saga to end soon
In the end, despite Jalen Duren's plenty of contemplation to pick up his qualifying offer that will let him be an unrestricted free agent next offseason, Fischer believes that both the big man and the Detroit Pistons will ultimately reach a resolution.
"I think they are going to come to terms here ultimately," Fischer argued. "I will really be surprised at this point in time if he ends up taking the qualifying offer.
"I just think we are at the five-yard line and getting closer and closer to the ends. I think we're going to find an agreement between these two sides in the near future."
