Alongside Morgan Rogers, Joao Pedro is Chelsea’s joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season.
Pedro and Rogers have scored three goals each in four games, with both players netting in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Hull City last Saturday. Cole Palmer is not far behind his two teammates, scoring two goals in the English top flight.
Pedro, Rogers and Palmer have all been clinical this term. Even so, Chelsea’s Brazilian striker has named another Blues star as the best finisher at Stamford Bridge.
Joao Pedro names Danny Welbeck as Chelsea’s best finisher
Danny Welbeck has not picked up too many minutes in the Premier League since joining Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the 35-year-old has clearly impressed Pedro in training and the Carabao Cup.
When asked who is the best finisher at Chelsea, Pedro told Men in Blazers: “I think Danny! Between me and Danny, but I would say him.”
Pedro also had the opportunity to take a close look at Welbeck’s shooting when the pair played together at Brighton.
Welbeck has already scored three goals in the Carabao Cup this season, bagging a brace in Chelsea’s thrilling 6-3 win over Leeds United in the third round. Following the full-time whistle, Ethan Ampadu praised Palmer’s and Rogers’ quality after they came off the bench and changed the tie, but Welbeck also impressed on the night.
Welbeck is likely to start on the bench when Chelsea travel to the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday to face Brentford, with Pedro being undroppable right now. Xabi Alonso, though, could need the former England international in the second half.
Chelsea have really struggled at Brentford’s ground, drawing 2-2 the last time they visited their neighbours. While Alonso will be expected to stick with Pedro, Welbeck will make his first Premier League start as a Chelsea player if he gets the nod later this week.
Whoever starts needs to fire Chelsea to all three points. After drawing with Hull, the Blues have now taken just one point from their last two games.
