Cody Gakpo continued his bright start to the season in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Tottenham, as he scored and was deemed the best player on the pitch by many supporters.
The Reds are into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, thanks to strikes from Alexis Mac Allister, Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai, who hit an early goal-of-the-season contender.
Here we compare our player ratings with those of the Liverpool Echo, the Independent and TIA’s readers.
It was Gakpo (7.88) who scored highest in the average ratings, following another effective attacking performance.
Not only did the Dutchman fire Liverpool into a 2-0 lead, but he was a constant threat down the left, with his newfound “swagger” hailed by This Is Anfield‘s Danny Gallagher.
Ian Doyle of the Echo believes Gakpo is “playing with real confidence,” returning to somewhere close to his best after a poor 2025/26 season.

Mac Allister (7.75) was Liverpool second-best performer, opening the scoring in style and showing “class,” according to Jamie Braidwood of the Independent.
Lewis Koumas (7.38) was impressive leading the line, too, with Gallagher saying he was “threatening” throughout.
Jeremie Frimpong (5.85) can’t seem to buy a good score this season, and he got the lowest rating for Liverpool.
What the stats say: Mac Allister shines with 8.7 rating
Mac Allister also scored high from FotMob, receiving an unrivalled 8.7 rating.
His goal was one of four shots on the night – the most by any player – and he also completed both dribbles, which he isn’t necessarily famed for.
Giorgi Mamardashvili performed well on the whole, too, making five saves overall and showing that he can be an able deputy to Alisson. He was, though, culpable for Spurs’ goal.
Meanwhile, Trey Nyoni produced a typically accomplished performance, completing 95 per cent of his passes (37/39), five of which were played into the final third.
