Barcelona having not given up hope of signing Julian Alvarez, despite their failed push during the recent summer transfer window. They are confident that Atletico Madrid will eventually open the door to them, but in the event that it does not happen, they are clear that an acceptable alternative must be signed instead.
Barcelona are very happy with their attacking options, which is why they see an established name as being the ideal piece to complete the puzzle. They want Alvarez, but if he is not available, they are lined up two blockbuster alternatives – they are Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, as reported by talkSPORT (via [CaughtOffside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2026/09/16/barcelona-still-keen-on-harry-kane-transfer/)).
Barcelona’s interest in Kane is not new – rather, it has been simmering in recent months. They tried for him in the summer as an Alvarez replacement, but [they were told that a deal would be “impossible”](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/barcelona-told-they-have-no-chance-of-signing-harry-kane/). However, they are still in the background, with the belief that an opportunity could arise if Bayern Munich struggle to agree a new contract with the English striker.
Right now, Kane is considered to be a more realistic signing than Haaland, but if Bayern finally manage to tie their number nine down to a new contract, Barcelona are prepared to move on to the Manchester City man, who they have also held a long-term interest in. The Norwegian would be the dream signing, especially for Joan Laporta, but there is little chance that the Premier League giants open the door – although that will not stop sporting director Deco from trying.
It will be interesting to see how Barcelona’s striker search goes in January. They are unlikely to be able to bring anyone in next summer due to an expected drop in income as a result of temporarily vacating the Spotify Camp Nou, so January will be their best chance to bring in their desired signing(s).
