Before today, the Knicks had 13 players on guaranteed contracts. With the looming second apron (only $3.3 million in cap space left), everyone expected them to add only one more player.
However, the defending champions have reportedly added three new players: John Konchar, Drew Eubanks, and Liam Robbins.
“Free agent forward John Konchar has agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Knicks, agent George S. Langberg of @GSLSportsGroup tells ESPN. Konchar is entering his eighth NBA season,” reported Shams Charania on X.
“SNY sources: big man Drew Eubanks is signing with the Knicks on a camp deal and will be competing for a roster spot,” wrote Ian Begley on X.
“The New York Knicks Sign Liam Robbins to an Exhibit 10 Contract,” the Knicks’ official PR page announced.
John Konchar was reportedly garnering interest from multiple teams and is expected to have at least received some guaranteed money in his deal as he joins the Knicks, despite uncertainty about whether he will make the final regular-season roster.
The seven-year NBA veteran is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 47.2% from the field for the Utah Jazz.
But since the Knicks need to replace Mitchell Robinson, the final roster spot was expected to go to a big man. And it seems that the defending champions acknowledge that drawback, as the remaining two additions are also centers.
Drew Eubanks is an eight-year NBA veteran who could reunite with his former Blazers teammate, Josh Hart, if he makes the final roster. He is currently on a one-year, non-guaranteed deal.
In 2025-26, Eubanks, the 6’10” tall center, averaged 5.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks while shooting 59.6% from the field while playing as a backup center to Domantas Sabonis on the Kings.
Meanwhile, seven-foot-tall Liam Robbins is coming out of the NBA G League, where he last played for the Rip City Remix and averaged 8.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 46.9% from the field.
With only approximately $3.3 million in cap space before crossing the second apron threshold, the Knicks are expected to have only one of these three players on the final roster. Even if Konchar has some guaranteed money, the Knicks can still afford a $2.5 million veteran minimum or minimum-contract deal.
Since Executive Chairman and CEO James Dolan has said they will do whatever it takes to stay under the second apron, it will certainly be interesting to see which of these three players makes the defending champions’ final regular season roster.
