Andoni Iraola will be hopeful that the Carabao Cup can offer his team an opportunity to compete and land silverware this season, having guided Liverpool through the first hurdle, which was the competition's third round.
The Reds were given a tough assignment first up, taking on Premier League rival Tottenham at Anfield, in a clash that had the potential to be problematic. It certainly wasn't without its drama, as Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo gave the home side a comfortable lead, though that was cut in half by Conor Gallagher.
The match then became frantic, as Liverpool looked to hold on from wave after wave of late Tottenham attack, only for the game to be won in true style after an outrageous strike from Dominik Szoboszlai.
With a 3-1 win secured, Iraola got his team through the opening challenge of the Carabao Cup and ensured that the Reds would be in the hat for the next round.
There could be even tougher challenges ahead, but Liverpool will fancy its chances of putting together a run in the competition, as it awaits the details on who it will face off with in the fourth round.
