‘Better Than Kerkez’ ‘He’s Weak’ Liverpool Fans Discuss Potential £34M January Swoop
Liverpool have “set their sights” on signing Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde in January, according to reports in the Spanish media.
AS claim the Reds see the 22-year-old as a “good market opportunity”, with the player not part of Hansi Flick’s first-team plans.
Joao Cancelo and Xavi Espart are ahead of Balde in the pecking order for starts on the left-hand side of defence, and he may consider leaving the Camp Nou in the New Year. However, Liverpool fans on X are split on whether he would be a good addition to Andoni Iraola’s squad:

There is competition for Balde
Manchester United made enquiries for the Spanish international before the summer transfer window closed, but the Red Devils were only looking to loan the defender.
AS report that Barca would prefer a sale, with Balde’s asking price having been set at around €40m or £34m.
Serie A champions Inter Milan are also said to be circling the fullback, so he will be in demand if he decides to leave Spain at the beginning of next year.
Liverpool have issues in both fullback positions
Iraola was clearly unhappy with what he saw from Kostas Tsimikas against Fulham at the weekend, with the Greek international being hauled off at halftime. However, first-choice Milos Kerkez has faced criticism for his own performances.
The club’s problems are not isolated to left-back either. Iraola has been forced to start Ronald Araujo out of position due to Jeremie Frimpong’s struggles and the long-term injury sustained by Conor Bradley.
Balde’s arrival at Anfield could fix the left-hand side, but many believe that the right flank is just as much a pressing issue. It would be a surprise, though, if two fullbacks were brought in during the January transfer window.
