Everton have been linked with a move for Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel after the highly-rated 15-year-old asked to leave Old Trafford.
A claim from Vinny Grappa on X says Everton are in “advanced talks” with Gabriel and that the teenager is attracted by the development pathway and direction of the club on Merseyside.
There is currently no independent corroboration of that Everton-specific claim, so it needs treating with caution. Gabriel’s uncertain future at United, however, is very real.
Sky Sports, The Times and others report that Gabriel and his representatives have formally asked United to cancel his registration, with the Old Trafford club surprised by the development but hopeful the situation can still be resolved.
Gabriel is regarded as one of United’s outstanding academy prospects. He became their youngest winner of the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award last season after scoring 23 goals in 23 appearances for the Under-18s and scored a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut against Sabah last week.
The forward had also been expected to be involved with United’s senior squad for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup tie against Brighton, but will now not be considered for selection.
Real Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester City have all been linked with Gabriel, underlining the level of interest there could be if his situation at United cannot be resolved.
For now, there is much stronger evidence for Gabriel wanting to leave United than there is for him heading to Everton. The reported Blues interest is intriguing, but until it is backed up elsewhere, that is as far as we can reasonably take it.
