Dominik Szoboszlai sent Liverpool fans home from Anfield with a moment to remember. They were there when he pulled out a wonderstrike for the Reds against Tottenham, with a finish that could put it up there with some of the best ever goals scored for the Reds.

It was a goal that eased tensions at Anfield, in a moment where Andoni Iraola's side were threatening to throw away a commanding position. Liverpool went 2-0 up in the EFL Cup third-round clash with Spurs, after well-taken strikes from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo seemed to ease the side into the fourth round.

However, that turned on its head when Conor Gallagher scored for the visitors late on. Suddenly, much like the rain pouring down on Merseyside in the second half, a tidal wave of attacks came crashing down on the home side.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was called into action on a few occasions to deny Tottenham the potential of taking the game to a penalty shootout, as the match opened up.

Then came an opportunity from nowhere. A simple flick from Cody Gakpo found Szoboszlai, who took the ball down with a touch of his chest, then struck it with his right foot the very next touch well outside the penalty area.

In an instant, it flew off his boot and looped over Martin Dubravka in the Tottenham goal and high into the top corner of the net, sending the crowd into ecstasy.

While it's unclear exactly how significant the goal was in terms of the result, as it simply gave the Reds a two-goal buffer back, the reaction from the Hungarian international's teammates says it all about how special the strike was.

New recruit Bradley Barcola, who has a special goal or two in his own highlight reels, put his hands on his head in disbelief at the strike as he watched it fly in.

Gakpo couldn't contain himself after the goal, continuing the run he had made off the ball and turning it into a knee slide celebration in front of the supporters.

Szoboszlai's own celebration may have been slightly more pointed, tapping to his ear as he ran off towards the fans to celebrate.

It's unclear whether that was a dig aimed at those who have criticized him, or whether it was a reference to something else, but it appeared a deliberate celebration, and not that of someone who was surprised by the effort.

It adds another incredible strike to a whole catalogue of them under Szoboszlai's name, who is building quite the reputation for his ball-striking.

Considering the relative lack of goals and cutting edge that has been there for Liverpool at times already this season, some more finishes like that wouldn't go amiss for Iraola and his coaching staff.

With the midfielder stepping up once again, he is showing why he has been entrusted with a leadership role, as the team leans on him to be a creative spark moving forward.
