Chelsea striker Joao Pedro says he is keenly anticipating Moises Caicedo’s return to full fitness.

The Ecuadorian has only made one brief appearance this season due to a troublesome calf problem, but Pedro believes he could have a big impact once he is ready for selection:

“He’s the best in his position in the world. When he (fights for) the ball, I don’t need to say anything because everyone knows he’s a machine. He’s very important for us, but soon he’ll be back.”

Caicedo played just 14 minutes against his former club Brighton last month, and manager Xabi Alonso admitted after the game that the player had been brought back too soon.

Will Caicedo be fit to face Brentford?

It doesn’t look like the 24-year-old will be back in contention before the international break. He has not been pictured in training this week.

Alonso’s men travel to take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Friday night, and it seems likely they will be without Caicedo for the fourth match in a row.

Other Chelsea injury news

There have been concerns over the fitness of Pedro as well, with the Brazilian not pictured with the rest of the first-team squad on Tuesday morning.

Despite the likes of Marco Palestra and Jordan Henderson participating in the session, Pedro was noticeably absent, along with Caicedo and captain Reece James.

London newspaper The Standard claim that Pedro and James WILL be available for selection, but we are likely to get more information on their fitness when Alonso faces the media in his pre-match press conference.

Emmanuel Emegha is another fitness doubt. He has yet to make a matchday squad, having struggled with more than one injury during pre-season.
