Matt Cord will return as the Philadelphia 76ers' PA announcer for one more season after previously saying that the 2025-26 NBA campaign would be his last.
One of the most recognizable voices in Philadelphia 76ers history will be back for another season, as longtime PA announcer Matt Cord has decided to return.
Despite previously announcing that he would retire after the 2025-26 season, the 76ers confirmed Cord's return for the upcoming campaign in a social media post.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to the mic as PA announcer for 76ers for one more season," Cord said in a statement announcing his return.
"Serving in this role for the past 28 years has been a dream come true, and I have been fortunate to witness so many memorable moments from the best seat in the house. This is going to be a special year, and I can't wait to be back at Xfinity Mobile Arena with you all. Let's go, 76ers!"
Cord explains decision to return
The longtime announcer also explained why he ultimately decided to come back for one more season despite previously planning to retire.
Speaking on 93.3 WMMR radio, Cord revealed that the 76ers' additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown played a major role in changing his mind.
"They made a trade for Jaylen Brown on July 1. And then on July 24, LeBron James signed with the Sixers," Cord said on the radio show via ClutchPoints.
The upcoming campaign will mark Cord's 29th season as the 76ers' PA announcer after he began working in the role in the late 1990s.
Cord will now get the opportunity to call another season in Philadelphia, including introducing James in a 76ers uniform as the franchise enters the campaign with major expectations.
