Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta smiles after Premier League win vs Chelsea
Arsenal are 'almost 100%' there in their bid to tie manager Mikel Arteta down to a new contract, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, as a ground-breaking update emerges out of the Emirates.
Despite his success at Arsenal in recent seasons, the Spaniard's current contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
The north London outfit and the 44-year-old have both made it clear that they want to continue with each other beyond this season, but a full agreement is yet to be confirmed by either party.
Arteta and the Gunners are looking to build upon a sensational 2025-26 season that saw them win the Premier League title for the first time since 2004, as well as coming within a penalty shootout win of lifting the Champions League.
The former Barcelona star will be determined to go one better in Europe's elite club competition this term, while also defending their Premier League title.
They have got off to the perfect start domestically, winning all four of their top flight games and conceding just once in the process, while they also beat Manchester City in the Community Shield.
The north Londoners have impressed elsewhere too, beating Napoli away from home in their opening Champions League group game, before winning 4-2 against Ipswich Town in the third round of the EFL Cup at Portman Road on Tuesday night.
It's not only Arsenal's senior players impressing this term either, as 16-year-old Max Dowman netted a brace against the Tractor Boys as he continues his remarkable rise into the first-team under Arteta.
According to Jacobs, speaking in his latest GMS newsletter video, the Spaniard is now about to commit his future to Arsenal.
[It's] almost 100% done. Mikel Arteta is going to extend at Arsenal, and the parties were always going to finalise this one after the transfer window shut, so there's no urgency in the sense that it's heading towards a positive conclusion.
"But talks between Arsenal and Arteta are now advanced, and my expectation is that Mikel Arteta will extend at Arsenal sooner rather than later."

While it has been expected that Arteta would pen new terms at the Emirates, the actual confirmation will be groundbreaking news for the club and their opponents in the Premier League and across Europe.
Arsenal took a risk when they first appointed the 37-year-old seven years ago, but they have developed into one of the most feared teams on the continent between then and now.
Arteta has made improvements both on and off the pitch and galvanised a fanbase that was growing frustrated with a lack of trophy success, and their rapid progress is because of the team and squad that the Spaniard has built since being appointed in 2019.
It hasn't always been plain sailing under the 44-year-old, but the Gunners have become a completely different animal in recent seasons.

Arteta has not only created a team that barely concedes any goals, but he has made them one of the most dangerous clubs in world football from set-piece situations, with the likes of Gabriel taking advantage of the excellent deliveries from Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and others.
After seven wins from seven this season, it appears as though Arsenal are only going from strength to strength under Arteta, and you wouldn't bet against them going one better and winning the Champions League this time around.
The Gunners' opponents in England and in Europe would have been hoping for a parting of the ways given how dominant they have been in recent months, and now it looks as though that is only set to continue.
